An archaeological evaluation was carried out on an area designated as Phase 2b Access Road, at Beaulieu, Chelmsford. The fieldwork took place between 19/8/14 and 27/8/14. A total of 19 trenches were excavated across six fields. At the western end of the evaluation Late Iron Age remains were uncovered, in the form of a buried soil. These remains may represent land use on the settlement fringe, to the south-east. A medieval ditch was encountered, possibly relating to a small settlement. Post-medieval activity was encountered across the evaluated area in the form of furrows, and towards the southern edge with a ditch and posthole.
